These are the best-selling car brands in Mexico in 2025 (and why Nissan won't relinquish its throne)
Although the outlook for the Mexican automotive sector is not the most encouraging —with declining sales, persistent inflation, and high interest rates— there is one brand that remains firmly at the top: Nissan.
According to recent figures from INEGI, corresponding to the first half of 2025, the Japanese automaker remains the favorite brand of Mexicans, both in monthly and accumulated numbers.
📊 How many cars did Nissan sell?
In June 2025 alone, Nissan placed 21,153 light vehicles on the market, which is equivalent to 18.23% of total national sales.
With this result, the brand has been the sales leader for 31 consecutive months, a significant achievement considering the slowdown in the sector.
Other prominent brands follow:
- General Motors: 14,736 units sold in June (although with an annual drop of -11.98%).
- Volkswagen: 10,471 units (-1.88%).
- Toyota: 10,162 units.
- KIA: 9,410 units, standing out with a positive growth of +5.74%.
🔍 Why is Nissan still in first place?
Nissan's continued success in Mexico can be explained by several key factors:
- Wide portfolio of affordable cars: Models like the Versa and the March continue to be highly sought after for their good value for money.
- National coverage: It has one of the largest and most complete distribution networks in the country.
- Attractive financing plans: Despite the high rates, Nissan has managed to offer affordable options thanks to its own finance company.
- Local production: Many of its vehicles are assembled in Mexico, which helps maintain availability and reduce the effects of tariff conflicts.
📉 How did the automotive market perform in 2025 ?
Although Nissan remains strong, the Mexican market is slowing down.
During June, 116,062 new cars were sold, representing a drop of -5.94% compared to the same month of the previous year.
And in the accumulated January-June period, sales reached 709,344 units, which means a slight decrease of -0.25% compared to 2024.
There is also a key fact: more than 65% of the cars sold were imported, and although China remains a major player, its numbers also declined: 20,080 Chinese cars were sold, but with a decrease of -17.65%.
